Poya Day – Kandy

Drummers and dancers at a Poya Day (Full Moon Day) festival next to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy, Sri Lanka.  The Temple of the Sacred Tooth is considered to be one of the most important temples in Sri Lanka, and holds the relic of the tooth of Buddha.  A Poya Day is a Buddhist public holiday held every full moon day in Sri Lanka.  The image above shows drummers and dancers at the Il Poya (November Poya Day).  The festival also feature elephants and other musicians.
